| National Championships 2005
Four gymnasts from MLC Gymnastics Club competed at National Championships
last week in Sydney. The Australian Championships were held at
Homebush Bay from May 16th to 22nd. The MLC Gymnasts had outstanding
results and returned home with 7 National Medals.
Lynn Silcock, currently an AIS non-residential
scholarship holder was a member of the Victorian Senior International
Team that won the Silver Team medal. (Senior International is
the highest division at National Championships, and where prospective
Olympic Games and World Championship team members are selected.)
Lynn, a 17 year old from Balwyn, has been a member of the MLC
gymnastics Club for the past 8 years.
Lynn further consolidated her position in the National AIS Olympic
Squad by improving on her 2004 results. She ranked 4th in the
Individual All Around competition and on the final day of competition
Lynn was crowned the National Vault Champion and winning an additional
silver medal on the Uneven Bars and a Bronze Medal on the Balance
Beam. Lynn competed in Belgium two weeks earlier in her first
Grand Prix in Ghent where she made her World Cup final debut on
uneven bars and placed 5th. She is certainly in contention for
World Championships to be held in Melbourne in November, and Commonwealth
Games early in 2006.
Samantha Bezzina, a newcomer to the International
Stream ranked 10th AA in the Senior Division behind Lynn. Fellow
team mate, Anabelle Hawkins won a Team Gold medal
in the International Level 10 Division, She ranked 8th All Around
and won an individual Silver medal on the Floor exercise.
Meagan Silvers was a member of the Victorian
Team that won the Bronze Medal in the National Level 8 Division.
She placed 20th AA and 9th on Floor. This completed a very successful
