2008 International Stream Victorian Championships and National Level 6-10 Apparatus Challenge
MLC was the host venue for the 2008 International Stream Victorian Championships on April 19th & 20th. The competition was conducted over 3 days, with a training session on Friday and over 120 competitors competing over the weekend.
MLC Gymnastics Club had 33 competitors in this event and finished the competition with 2 team medals, 6 gymnasts ranked in the top 6 All Around for their division and 7 gymnasts selected for Australian / National Championships. There were outstanding results achieved by:
International Level 6
Brittany Morison-Moon - won a Silver Medal in the All Around and Bronze on Beam
Rebecca Matters - placed 4th on Floor
International Level 8
Isobel Looker - placed 4th All Around in her first International Competition
Kristina Ostojic - Silver medalist in the All Around and won a gold and 3 silver apparatus medals
International Level 10
Georgia Wheeler - placed 4th All Around and won a bronze medal on Vault and Bars
Alex Byers-Armstrong - won a bronze medal on Floor
Clare O’Donnell - ranked 4th on Vault in her first Victorian Championships
The competition was also a selection trial for Australian Championships in Mellbourne next month. The following 5 MLC gymnasts were selected to represent Victoria at Vodafone Arena from May 20-25th:
Alex Byers-Armstrong, Georgia Wheeler, Clare O’Donnell, Amelia McGrath& Chloe Turko along with selected coaches Michelle De Highden and Guo Xin Min.
Kristina Ostojic and Brittany Morison-Moon have also been selected to represent Victoria at the National Championships in Brisbane in July, with further selection trials to follow later in May.
The competition was also combined with an Apparatus Challenge for National Level 6-10 gymnasts on the Saturday evening. With MLC returning home with over 19 individual medals for the evening.
