Victorian Interschool Gymnastics & Cheerleading Competition 2007

The Victorian Interschool Gymnastics & Cheerleading competition was held on the 5th - 7th Sept and proved to once again be a successful season competition for all involved

Gymnastics
In preparation for this event, current, new and retired gymnasts trained hard during Term 3 under the guidance of Team Manager, Leida O’Flynn assisted by Year 12 students Melanie Yalour - School Gymnastics Captain & Clare Wilson - School Gymnastics Vice Captain.

This year 45 students from years 6-12 represented the College across 6 different divisions and over 3 days of competition.  Of MLC’s 10 teams, 8 Teams placed either 1st or 2nd in their division with some fantastic individual results as well:

1st Placed Teams

  • National Level 7-10 & International Stream Team (Alex Byers-Armstrong Yr 7, Georgia Wheeler Yr 7, Brittany Morison-Moon Yr 6, Annabelle Diamond Yr 8 & Emily Fletcher Yr 7) Individuals (Tori Curtis Yr 9 & Paige Gordon Yr 8)
  • National Level 6 Team (Amanda Stuart Yr 7, Sarah Mackay Yr 8, Rebecca Pollard & Olivia Delbridge Yr 6)
  • Level 4 Senior Team 1 (Steph Rowe Yr 11, Clare Wilson (VC) Yr 12, Tahlia Geddes Yr 12 & Laura Phung Yr 12)
  • Level 4 Junior Team 1 (Maddy Wells Yr 8, Catherine Nadel Yr 9, Maggie Wilson Yr 7 & Ali Szlawski Yr 8)

2nd Placed Teams

  • State Level 4-10 Team (Melanie Yalpur (C) Yr 12, Jess Sulda Yr 11, Courtney Lewis Yr 9 7 Siobhan Turnbull Yr 6)
  • National Level 5 Team  (Alex England Yr 10, Christina Ruiz Yr 8 & Becky Close Yr 7)
  • Level 4 Senior Team 2 (Molly O’Donohue Yr 10, Liza Costello Yr 12, Lucinda Cunningham Yr 11 & Harriet Bawden Yr 11)
  • Level 3 Senior Team 1 (Kathryn Andrews Yr 10, Emily von Moger Yr 11, Jo Moot Yr 12 & Jenni Medland Yr 11)

Cheerleading
Team Coordinator Peta Hill and coaches Tash Merzvinskis & Kath Madden have been training and rehearsing the cheerleading team all year. The MLC team, made up of 25 students from Yr 7 – Yr 12 entered 2 divisions “Poms, Drills & Dance” and the “Cheer, Stunts & Tumbling” placing 1st in both divisions. This has set them up well for the National Championships later this month.

Once again this year’s event was a great success and all of MLC gymnasts competed extremely well to come through with some outstanding results.  Congratulations to all involved.
