GEORGIA WHEELER TO COMPETE AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES !

DEHLI_LOGOGeorgia Wheeler will now compete in Delhi ! Due to an unfortunate and untimely injury to Mary-Anne Monkton this week, Georgia has been placed on the team to depart for Delhi on September 27th.

As a National team member, Georgia would not wish to replace another team-mate who has been selected to compete for Australia, as the gymnasts all train just as hard as one another.  However, Georgia was assessed today by the National Coach, Peggy Liddick for her competition readiness, keeping in mind that Commonwealth Games competition is not for another month. Following Peggy's assessment today, she announced that Georgia will now be competing as Mary-Anne's replacement on the team.

Since returning from National Championships Georgia has been working really hard on a few key areas in her training; quality and consistency so she can contribute a strong score to the National team for the upcoming competitions.

On bars Georgia has consistently added the uprise clear hip circle from her toe shap, and consolidated her dismount, hitting strong full sets over the past couple of weeks. On beam Georgia has added her wolf full turn and improved her flic flic double pike dismount. On floor we have worked on her steps in her tumbling to ensure the deductions for landings and out of bounds are minimised, and been training double layout on floor really well (for 2011). On vault Georgia has made some good improvements with her double twisting yurchenko, but this is certainly not ready for competition this year. This type of skill will take a long while to consolidate for competition readiness, and we are certainly not taking any risks at this stage in Georgia's development, but her sound improvement in the basics of this vault will certainly allow her a good platform for 2011.

Georgia is a fantastic athlete and works extremely hard every time she enters the gym. She has certainly  made some fantastic improvements over the past 18 months, with many of her D and E skills being competed for the first time throughout 2009 and 2010. Over the past month Georgia has done some great training numbers that will certainly hold her in good stead for the upcoming camp and trials in 2 weeks time.

We wish a speedy recovery to Mary-Anne, as she is a fantastic gymnasts and has certainly had her share of injuries !

We also wish Georgia the very best of luck over the coming weeks ! Go Georgia !
